Executive Board

DECN’s general assembly elected the following board of directors/executive board. This is an apex body of DECN to steer overall business for the period of its tenure. (15th general assembly)

Ms. Harikala Devi Thapa
Chair Person

Harikala Thapa Magar serves as the President of the Disable Empowerment and Communication Centre Nepal (DEC-N), located in Banke District, Lumbini Province. She assumed this role on September 20, 2020, and continues to lead the organization.  DEC-N focuses on empowering individuals with disabilities and facilitating effective communication within the community.  

Mr. Indra Bahadur Thakali
Vice Chair Person

Indra Bahadur Thakali is the Vice-President of the Disable Empowerment and Communication Centre Nepal (DEC-N) in Banke District, Lumbini Province. He represents parents of individuals with intellectual disabilities. DEC-N focuses on empowering persons with disabilities and enhancing community communication. 

Mr. Gokarna Prasad Acharya
Secretary

Gokarn Acharya serves as the Secretary of the Disable Empowerment and Communication Centre Nepal (DEC-N) in Banke District, Lumbini Province. He represents parents of individuals with intellectual disabilities, contributing to DEC-N’s mission of empowering persons with disabilities and enhancing community communication.

Ms.Purnima Sharma
Vice-Secretary

Purnima Sharma serves as the Vice-Secretary of the Disable Empowerment and Communication Centre Nepal (DEC-N), based in Banke District, Lumbini Province. Living with low vision, she brings personal insight to her advocacy work, contributing significantly to DEC-N’s mission of empowering individuals with disabilities and promoting inclusive community development.

Mr. Lalit Bahadur Khathayat
Treasurer

Lalit Bahadur Kathayat serves as the Treasurer of the Disable Empowerment and Communication Centre Nepal (DEC-N), based in Banke District, Lumbini Province. He is a person with a physical disability. In his role, he oversees and manages the organization’s financial activities, ensuring transparency and accountability in fund allocation and utilization.

Jhakka Prasad Pokharel serves as a board member of the Disable Empowerment and Communication Centre Nepal (DEC-N), based in Banke District, Lumbini Province. Living with speech related disability, he brings personal experience to his advocacy, contributing to DEC-N’s mission of empowering individuals with disabilities and promoting inclusive community development.

Ajaya Sharma is a board member of the Disable Empowerment and Communication Centre Nepal (DEC-N), located in Banke District, Lumbini Province.

Ms. Punam Devi Soni
Member

Punam Soni is a dedicated member of the Disable Empowerment and Communication Centre Nepal (DEC-N), based in Banke District, Lumbini Province. Living with a physical disability, she actively advocates for the rights and empowerment of women with disabilities in her community, promoting inclusivity and equal opportunities.

Ms. Kumari Durga Lakher

Kumari Durga  is a dedicated member of the Disable Empowerment and Communication Centre Nepal (DEC-N), based in Banke District, Lumbini Province. Living with a physical disability, she actively advocates for the rights and empowerment of women with disabilities in her community, promoting inclusivity and equal opportunities

Mr. Devi Datta Acharya
Executive Director

Mr. Devidatta Acharya is a prominent leader and advocate in the field of disability rights in Nepal. Currently serving as the Executive Director of Disability Empowerment and Capacity Development Nepal (DEC Nepal), he has made significant contributions to enhancing the lives of individuals with disabilities through capacity building, advocacy, and policy reform. As the leader of the National Federation of the Disabled, Nepal (NFDN), an umbrella organization comprising over 400 organizations of persons with disabilities (OPDs), Acharya has been instrumental in uniting voices and promoting inclusive practices across the nation. His commitment to empowering marginalized communities has earned him respect and recognition both locally and internationally.With a background in social work and advocacy, Acharya's leadership focuses on creating sustainable solutions and fostering a more inclusive society. He collaborates with various stakeholders, including government bodies and non-governmental organizations, to drive impactful changes in legislation and social attitudes regarding disability. Under his guidance, NFDN has engaged in various initiatives aimed at improving accessibility, education, and employment opportunities for people with disabilities. Acharya’s vision for an inclusive Nepal continues to inspire many, making a significant difference in the lives of countless individuals.
